PASSAGES: Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Timothy 3:16; Matthew 28:19; Romans 1:3-4; Romans 3:23; Romans 3:24; Psalm 51:7; 1 Corinthians 6:11; Romans 12:1; John 14:15-17; Acts 2:4; Matthew 28:19; Matthew 8:16-17; John 14:2; Romans 8:11;

We must KNOW what we believe in order to LIVE what we believe. Biblical knowledge and doctrine alone will NOT be enough. We must take bible knowledge and doctrine, as well as a relational discipleship within our church family to create a transformational life-change.

Making disciples is all about developing true followers of Jesus Christ while understanding that the person and work of the Holy Spirit himself is intimately and undeniable involved in this life long process. It is the Holy Spirit that helps us to become more like Jesus.

Over the next several weeks, we are going to be looking at discipleship, with the understanding that we as disciples are to go forth and make more disciples for Christ. We need to know that the Great Commission can be fulfilled.

Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV) ~ And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Declaration of Faith

  • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
    • 2 Timothy 3:16 ~ “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
    • The words “is given by inspiration of God” means “breathed by God“.
    • The skills, knowledge, and personal styles of the individual human authors are the vehicles used by the Holy Spirit to produce an infallible record of God’s saving self-revelation in history, law, poetry, prophecy, and epistle, so that there is no error in either report or doctrine.
    • The clause “the Lord said” occurs 3,800 times in the Old Testament alone.
    • The Bible, 66 individuals books that was written by 40 different authors over 1,500 years of time, has such a unity that it can be regarded as one book. This unity shows up in many areas: the doctrine of God, the doctrine of salvation, the doctrine of man, the doctrine of eternal destiny, and the plan of the ages.

  • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
    • All qualities of divine nature (infinite, eternal, and unchangeable) belong to each of the Persons of the Trinity. They are the same in substance and are equal in power, glory, and honor.
    • Scriptures that speak about the oneness of God: Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Kings 8:60; 1 Corinthians 8:4 & 6; 1 Timothy 2:5; and James 2:19.
    • Scriptures that speak about the plurality of God: Genesis 1:1 & 26, 11:7; Psalm 45:6, 7; Hebrews 1:8; John 3:16, 14:26, 15:26; Romans 8:27 and Matthew 28:19.
    • Matthew 28:19 ~ “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
    • Three major fields of doctrine taught in this statement:
      • The nature of Christ (divine and human)
      • The character of the redemption which Christ purchased
      • The nature of Christ’s present ministry
    • Romans 1:3, 4 ~ “Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for the forgiveness of sins.
    • Romans 3:23 ~ “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Sin is an act and/or condition that is the product of the human will.
