PASSAGES: 1 Samuel 16:11; 1 Samuel 16:12-13; Ruth 2:2-3; Ruth 4:9-10; Esther 2:21; Esther 6:10-11

There are times in our lives that a season is going to close, and a new season is going to open. I have heard some say this happens often and some say it happens very little. All I do know is that God ordains our steps, and He is in control of the seasons of our lives.

Let’s look at three different people who had a season change in their lives.

David – from a shepherd to the king.

1 Samuel 16:11 ~ “11 Then Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your sons here?” And he said, “There remains yet the youngest, but behold, he is keeping the sheep.” And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down till he comes here.””

1 Samuel 16:12–13 “12 And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and had beautiful eyes and was handsome. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him, for this is he.” 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.”

Ruth – from working in the field to owning the same field.

Ruth 2:2–3 “2 And Ruth the Moabite said to Naomi, “Let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor.” And she said to her, “Go, my daughter.” 3 So she set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech.”

Ruth 4:9–10 “9 Then Boaz said to the elders and all the people, “You are witnesses this day that I have bought from the hand of Naomi all that belonged to Elimelech and all that belonged to Chilion and to Mahlon. 10 Also Ruth the Moabite, the widow of Mahlon, I have bought to be my wife, to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance, that the name of the dead may not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his native place. You are witnesses this day.””

Mordecai – goes from sitting outside the king’s palace to sitting inside the king’s palace.

Esther 2:21 “21 In those days, as Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus.”

Esther 6:10–11 “10 Then the king said to Haman, “Hurry; take the robes and the horse, as you have said, and do so to Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Leave out nothing that you have mentioned.” 11 So Haman took the robes and the horse, and he dressed Mordecai and led him through the square of the city, proclaiming before him, “Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honor.””

God doesn’t just change the seasons in our lives because we don’t like something going on. When we serve God and honor Him, God turns things around in our lives and pours out unmerited favor on the next season in our lives.
