Sermon Outline for Sunday, January 12, 2025
PASSAGES: Romans 8:28; Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 55:8–9; Philippians 1:6; Isaiah 41:10
Did you know that things don’t always go according to plan? I want you to know that …
Romans 8:28 ~ “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Sometimes God may allow the alarm clock to mess up so you will miss a wreck on the interstate going to work, but sometimes, you just didn’t set it. We must know that unanticipated problems will occur, and unanticipated successes will occur, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that God nor the devil did something. Life happens. Weather changes, income increases and declines, nails fall into the driveway and cause a flat tire, you run out of gas, health issues arise … and the list goes on. Regardless of what is on that list … ALL THINGS work together for the good for those who are called according to His purpose, those who love Him, those who follow His Will and those who trust in Him. Life happens – don’t allow it to throw you off your spiritual balance, just believe that God already knew those things were going to happen. Take each moment as a learning experience, that God is trying to teach you something and move forward with His plan for your life.
Why? Because God is sure of His plan for us. God made His plan for you and me before we were even born.
Jeremiah 1:5 ~ “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Just as God appointed Jeremiah to be a prophet to the nations, God appointed you and I to do a work for Him. He is continually working in our lives so that the plan He worked out before we were even born will come to pass. What are you doing to hinder that plan? What are you doing to embrace that plan?
If we are on this earth, it is never too late to embrace God’s plan for our lives. How? spending time studying the Bible, learning from those whom God has placed into our lives (pastors, teachers, etc.) discussing faith questions with others, praying and seeking His will for our lives. The more we learn from and about God, the clearer the plan He has for us becomes.
Embracing God’s plan means we commit to developing a relationship with Him in our daily life.
- God’s plan is different from our own.
Isaiah 55:8–9 ~ “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Embracing God’s plan means we work on being flexible, good natured and inquisitive when unexpected events change our daily agendas.
- God promises to fulfill His plan.
Philippians 1:6 ~ “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Embracing God plan means remembering each of us is a good work in progress and God promises to complete every one of His projects.
- God will always help us.
Isaiah 41:10 ~ “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Throughout our lives, difficulties perceived as obstacles will come our way and we may even perceive those as something getting in the way of our dreams. Maybe those are not problems, but God putting something on the agenda to carry out an even bigger plan. Perhaps God allowed that difficulty to enter our lives to capture our attention, to encourage us to check our direction, and to build a relationship of trust with him.
Embracing God’s plan means reaching out to Him for help and trusting Him to follow through.
