Psalm 32:8 ~ “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
If Jesus Christ came into this sanctuary right now and said you could ask Him anything, what would you ask?
Paul asked Him in Acts 9:6 – “Lord, what would you have me to do?” In our words today, “Lord, what is your will for my life?”
Everyone of us in here is (I hope and pray) wanting to make sure we are in the Will of God for our lives. This morning, we have graduates that are fixing to start a brand new chapter of their lives and my prayer is that whatever they do, they stay in the Will of God for their lives as well. We all get to a “Damascus Road” spot at one time, or many times, in our lives and we want to make sure we are in God’s Will at all times.
Let’s take a look at a few scriptures to help us make those decisions in our lives so that we are staying in God’s Will:
• God has promised us that he will guide us in our lives.
Ephesians 2:8–10 (ESV)8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
• God wants to direct our steps day by day.
Psalm 37:23 (ESV)23 The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way;
Now that we know from God’s Word that He will guide and direct us, let’s talk about God’s Will.
• God’s Will is not a road-map; it is a relationship.
• When God led the children of Israel through the wilderness, how did He lead them? He led them by a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. And all they had to do was just simply keep that pillar of cloud or fire in sight.
• All you have to do is be conscious of the presence of God in your life. That’s all. It is a relationship.
• The will of God is not something you have to do; it is something you get to do.
• It’s something: God wants for you what you’d want for yourself if you had enough sense to want it.
• Psalms 37:4 ~ “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
• Now that doesn’t mean that when you delight yourself in the Lord, you can have whatever you want, because your wants are determined by your desires.
• And when we delight ourselves in the Lord, our desires change.
• God DOES have a plan for everyone!
• God’s Will is not just for a select few such as Pastors or Missionaries.
• God has a plan for plumbers, secretaries, lawyers, doctors and even YOU!
• Your Damascus Road is going to be unique.
• Not everyone has a bright light shining down from heaven and blinding them.
• 1 Kings 19:11-12 “11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.”
• Just be ready to listen to the sound of the low whisper of God.
• Quit looking at your age.
• God’s will is for the young and the old.
• All God wants to have is a willing vessel to be used for Him!
• The will of God is not an Easter Egg Hunt; it is not hidden.
• As a matter of face, the Will of God will find you, but you have to get yourself into a position to do the Will of God.
• You must yield yourself to God and allow God to work in your life – that is the Will of God.
• Psalm 32:8 “8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.”
