Funeral Arrangements for William Levi “Lee” Fincher

Pastor Andy Lambert   -

Dear CV FAMILY –

We are saddened to inform you of the death of William Levi “Lee” Fincher, brother of Nellie Shirley.

William Levi “Lee” Fincher, 96, of Chula Vista, passed away on August 03, 2025. He was born the son of H. Wendell and Lessie Fincher on September 03, 1928, in Acmar, AL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Ferguson Fincher, son, Gary Fincher, sister, Wenona F. Green, and brothers, Eldridge “Bud”, O. Ferrell, and Louie Fincher.

Lee is survived by his daughters Karen F. Polk (Wayne) and Kathy F. Moore (Jimmy); grandchildren Camie P. Young (Paul), Adria P. Davis (Wayne), Jeremy Polk (Paula), Rickey Fincher (Dana), Amy F. Brasher (Ronnie), Tracy B. Lear (Richard), Lyle Barnard, III (Linsey), and Addison Moore (Brandi); sisters Nellie F. Shirley and Linda F. Ball. Lee was also proud to have 16 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The long and well-lived years of Lee Fincher had many highlights. He learned hard work in the fields, and love of baseball when he could get the time to play. He married Audrey Ferguson on her high school graduation day, and together they built a house and a life with hard work and resourcefulness. In that house they raised three children and eventually enjoyed family gatherings with grandkids. Work as a welder sent them to Texas, where they retired and found joy in their local church and working with Volunteer Christian Builders. Their camper took them around the country to work on church construction projects. Lee enjoyed sharing his faith in Christ with others and gave the best bear hugs anyone has ever received. Their busy retirement years also included time for grandkids who were close by, large family gatherings when they could get them, and trips to Alabama to help care for aging mothers. When they returned to Alabama to be more available for their mothers, they settled in, with a life built around family and faith. When his wife’s health declined, Lee faithfully cared for her (with help from his daughters) until she went Home to be with the Lord. He also found encouragement and help from his church family at Eden Westside Baptist Church. His last years were spent enjoying family and church relationships…and always, a good meal.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the people who helped make it possible for Lee to spend his last years at home with dignity and peace: Affinity Hospice and his nurse, Jonathan Sisson; Margie Baker, his long-time caregiver; Amanda Benefield and Lecresha Clark, who did the heavy lifting when Lee’s daughters could not do it alone.

Visitation will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 09, 2025, at Cook Springs Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00am.
