ONGOING UPDATES ABOUT SIS. BETTY HOLLIS

This will be an ongoing update about Sis. Betty Hollis. Please return to this page often as the latest information we will post here for our CV FAMILY.

UPDATE (Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 2:45pm) – Again, not much change with Sis. Hollis, but this is a short update. She did sleep all night last night and the hospital has been attempting to do therapy; the therapy is not going well, as she doesn’t have a lot of strength to help. The hospital plans on discharging her within the next few days, I will keep that information updated as we are able.

UPDATE (Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 4:00pm) – Change has been slow, that is the reason updates are slow coming out. Please continue to pray, even with no update. I just spoke with Katie, Sis. Hollis’s daughter. On Friday, Sis. Hollis had an A-Fib incident. This is also what they are believing MAY have been the cause of the blood clot from the beginning on Tuesday, June 24. They have given medication to treat and try to prevent, but it doesn’t mean she will never have another incident, just means trying to prevent. They also gave her some medication to help her stay awake more, because she has slept mostly non-stop since her surgery on Tuesday evening. This medication, however, kept her (and everyone else) awake the rest of the day Friday, Friday evening, Friday night and up and through most of the day on Saturday. She is resting now, thank goodness. She is still not eating much, but is drinking some. This evening, let’s join in prayer for the following: rest for Sis. Hollis and Katie (and family), wisdom for doctors and nursing staff with the A-Fib, and God’s Will with her eating and nourishment.

UPDATE (Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 8:30pm) – today they have done an MRI, as well as some physical therapy and speech therapy. All of this is to help determine the extent of the stroke. They have also tried her eating on some soft food today as well. She is not really staying awake much to be able to eat, but she is waking some to drink some of the juices that have been made available to her. The plan is to move her to a step down unit and continue therapy and rehab. They do want her to rest as much as she can, however also stay awake enough to do therapy and eat some as well.

UPDATE (Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 9:00am) – As of early this morning, around 1:30am, Sis. Hollis was stable and they were starting to bring her out of the surgery sedation. They were unable to remove the clot from her brain as it had moved deeper by the time they were able to get her into surgery.

So, from the beginning, she fell on Tuesday and Katie called 911. The ambulance personnel immediately knew she had a stroke, so she was taken to UAB Downtown. Upon arrival, they discovered the blood clot was in her brain and took her to surgery. They were able to go through an artery to attempt to remove the blood clot, but unsuccessful, due to the clot moving deeper into her brain. They have her stable at the moment. Physical Therapy and Rehab will be assessing her today to determine her baseline and then a plan will be developed to determine the next course for her. She will more than likely remain at UAB for a few days, then Rehab. Obviously things change quickly when doing assessments, so as they do, we will post new updates to this page as we are able. Most importantly, please keep Sis. Hollis, Katie and Wayne Reaves, her family, and the staff of UAB in your prayers.
