People
have a place for everything in our lives: TV time, family time, date night, our
kids and their future … but where is the place we have for God? His Church? His
Word? What place should the Word have in our lives?
John 8:37 ~ “I know that you are offspring of
Abraham; yet you seek to kill me because my word finds no place in you.”
• An Inside Place
• The Word of God should have a place in
the thoughts, in the memory, in the conscience and in the affections.
Psalm 51:6 ~ “Behold, you delight in truth in the
inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.”
Psalm 119:11 ~ “I have stored up your word in my
heart, that I might not sin against you.”
• We are not just to read the Bible, but
we are also to absorb it and hide it in our hearts. It is important to believe,
obey and honor the Word of God.
Jeremiah 15:16 ~ “Your words were found, and I
ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I
am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.”
• Sometimes the word is bitter at first,
but when it is eaten and absorbed, it is sweet to the taste.
Colossians 3:16 ~ “Let the word of Christ dwell
in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing
psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
• An Honored Place
• The Word of God should receive
attention, reverence, faith and obedience.
John 8:47 ~ “Whoever is of God hears the words of
God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.””
Luke 6:46 ~ “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and
not do what I tell you?”
Matthew 7:24 ~ “Everyone then who hears these
words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the
rock.”
• A Trusted Place
Psalm 119:42 ~ “then shall I have an answer for
him who taunts me, for I trust in your word.”
Matthew 24:35 ~ “Heaven and earth will pass away,
but my words will not pass away.”
1 Kings 8:56 ~ “Blessed be the Lord who has given
rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. Not one word has
failed of all his good promise, which he spoke by Moses his servant.”
Psalm 119:105 ~ “Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.”
Psalm 19:7 ~ “The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;”
• A Loved Place
Job 23:12 ~ “I have not departed from the
commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my
portion of food.”
Psalm 119:103 ~ “How sweet are your words to my
taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”
Psalm 19:10 ~ “More to be desired are they than
gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the
honeycomb.”
Psalm 119:72 ~ “The law of your mouth is better
to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.”
• No Place
• Because the Word of God makes a demand
on people, they make no place for it.
• Because the Word teaches people to
forsake things that displease God, they make no place for it.
Isaiah 55:7 ~ “let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, that he may
have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”
• Because the Word teaches people to do
what God commands, they make no place for it.
James 1:22 ~ “But be doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”
CONCLUSION:
Hebrews 4:12 ~ “For the word of God is living and
active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and
of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions
of the heart.”
Jeremiah 23:29 ~ “Is not my word like fire,
declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?”
