Passages: Matthew 6:33; Matthew 16:26; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 15:24; Romans 12:17; Matthew 6:24; Titus 2:1; Romans 2:1-3; 2 Corinthians 4:18
Priorities are things, tasks or goals considered more important than others, requiring them to be dealt with first or given greater attention, focusing resources like time and energy on what matters most before less urgent items. The general steps that most people use to organize their priorities are:
- Create a Master List: Write down everything you need to do. Yes, some people just do this in their head, but usually forget something.
- Identify True Importance: Distinguish between urgent - seeming tasks and truly important goals.
- Assess Urgency & Impact: Rank items to see what needs to be done now verses what moves you forward.
- Limit Daily Focus: Don’t let your main list overwhelm you; pick only your top 1-3 critical tasks each day.
- Focus on One Thing: Complete your top task before moving to the next to build momentum.
- Review & Adapt: Regularly reassess your list as priorities shift.
Matthew 6:33 ~ “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
One of the most common sins among those who claim to be children of God is the sin of misplacing emphasis; getting our priorities out of order. God has made it plain in His Word that we must priorities things in our life properly. As in all things, we must look to God’s Word and develop the attitude of accepting the Divine order of things. We must emphasize and priorities the proper things in our lives.
Matthew 16:26 ~ “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?”
- Salvation is to be the highest priority we have. First, our own salvation and then for those around us.
Romans 12:1–2 ~ “1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
- Jesus died that we might have salvation; therefore, for salvation we must live our lives so that others may be saved.
1 Corinthians 15:24 ~ “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.”
- The church must take priority in our lives; Jesus died for it - it is His bride, His body, and for it He will come a second time to take it home.
Romans 12:17 ~ “Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.”
- Principle is more important; just because someone does you wrong does not give you the right to do evil back to them. We must remember we are not fighting against flesh and blood.
Matthew 6:24 AMP ~ “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in).”
- We must place God first, above all riches, money, possessions, above all other things.
Titus 2:1 ~ “But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.”
- Parents are often too busy in their quest for prosperity that their children and the training of their children are often neglected.
Romans 2:1–3 ~ “1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2 We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3 Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?”
- We are inclined to be charitable with ourselves and severe with others. We ought to be severe with ourselves and charitable with others.
- Let’s make sure we are doing right, before we try to correct someone else.
2 Corinthians 4:18 ~ “as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
- If we expect to be with God in heaven, we must begin by stressing and prioritizing heavenly things.
- Make sure our eyes are not so focused on the physical and temporal things, that we neglect the spiritual and eternal things.
