On Friday, May 8, 1914, a joint resolution was approved by Congress designating the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. The President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, issues a proclamation calling upon the government officials to display the US Flag on all government buildings as a public expression of our love and reverence for the mothers of our country.

The “Mother’s Day Bill” Congressional Record in part reads … “Whereas we honor ourselves and the mothers of America when we do anything to give emphasis to the home as the fountain head of the State; and Whereas the American mother is doing so much for the home, moral uplift, and religion, hence so much for good government and humanity;”

WOW! How times have changed in the views of a MOTHER! Many politicians, celebrities and others cannot even define what a MOTHER is … well, let me help those folks.

Webster defines a mother as a female parent, a woman in authority, to give birth, to give rise to, to care for.

Woke-ism defines a mother as “birthing people”.

Proverbs 31:10 (ESV) ~ An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels.

Mothers are to be Christian Mothers

• Born again believers – John 3:7 ~ “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’”

• Believe the Bible – Luke 1:45 ~ “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.””

• Behavior is becoming – Luke 1:48 ~ “for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;”

Mothers are to be Consecrated Mothers

• Their prayers are sincere – 1 Samuel 1:27 ~ “For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition that I made to him.”

• Their help is sacrificial – Mark 12:44 ~ “For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

• Their love is sweet – Isaiah 66:13 ~ “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”

Mothers are to be Courageous Mothers

• Demonstrate faith and Display fearlessness – Hebrews 11:23 ~ “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.”

• Determine to be faithful – 1 Samuel 2:19 ~ “And his mother used to make for him a little robe and take it to him each year when she went up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.”

Mothers are to be Counseling Mothers

• Educator – Deuteronomy 6:7 ~ “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

• Edifier – Proverbs 15:22 ~ “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.”

• Example – Titus 2:3-4 ~ “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,”

Mothers are NOT to be Condemned Mothers

• Lack of Convictions – 2 Chronicles 22:3 ~ “He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother was his counselor in doing wickedly.”

• Loose with Children – Ezekiel 16:44 ~ “Behold, everyone who uses proverbs will use this proverb about you: ‘Like mother, like daughter.’”

• Love not Christ – John 3:18 ~ “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

Mothers are to be an example to their children and teach them to Love Christ and know Him as their Savior!
