PASSAGES: Luke 2:10-11; Micah 5:2; John 1:18; John 14:9; Mark 3:27; Hebrews 2:14-15; 1 Peter 2:24

Luke 2:10–11 ~ “And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

At this time of the year, most of our attention is turned to the birth of Christ. The tragedy today is that many teach their children that Christ was born, but fail to teach them why He was born. Let’s look at several reasons why Jesus was born.

JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN IN BETHLEHEM TO FULFILL PROPHECY

Micah 5:2 ~ “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”

JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN ALSO IN ORDER THAT HE MIGHT REVEAL GOD

John 1:18 ~ “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.”

John 14:9 ~ “Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN SO HE COULD DEFEAT THE DEVIL

Mark 3:27 ~ “But no one can enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house.”

Hebrews 2:14–15 ~ “Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.”

JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN SO THAT HE COULD PROVIDE SALVATION

1 Peter 2:24 ~ “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”
