EVENTS OF CHRIST’S CRUCIFIXION AND SUFFERING
- Feeling Forsaken by the Father (Psalm 22:1-3; Matthew 27:45-47)
- Jesus Mocked and His Garments Divided (Psalm 22:6-8, 17-18, 31; Matthew 27:31-44)
- Hands and Feet Pierced (Psalm 22:11-16; John 20:24-29)
Central Truth: Christ’s suffering is part of God’s prophesied plan to heal the world.
Focus: Compare the psalmist’s prophecy regarding Christ’s suffering with the Gospel accounts and recognize God’s sovereign plan.
Evangelism Emphasis: Faithfulness in the midst of difficulty can reveal to unbelievers our hope in Christ.
