Jesus should mean more than all the world to us. He is our pardon, peace, joy, hope, assurance, friend, companion and soon coming King.
Philippians 2:21 ~ “For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.”
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE IN PRAYER
- He has given us the pattern for prayer. (Luke 11:1–2 ~ “1 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.”)
- He wants us to pray in His name. (John 14:14 ~ “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” )
- He is able to answer our prayer. (Ephesians 3:20 ~ “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,” )
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE IN TEMPTATION
- He is able to keep us from falling. (Jude 24 ~ “Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,” )
- He will give us victory over temptation. (1 Corinthians 10:13 ~ “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” )
- He will reward us for resisting temptation. (James 1:12 ~ “Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” )
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE OF ETERNAL LIFE
- He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2 ~ “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” )
- He is the Shepherd and Bishop of our souls. (1 Peter 2:25 ~ “For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” )
- He gives us eternal life. (John 20:28–29 ~ “28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”” )
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE IN DEATH
- He has the keys of death. (Revelation 1:18 ~ “and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.” )
- He gives comfort in death. (Psalm 23:4 ~ “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” )
- He takes the sting out of death. (1 Corinthians 15:55–57 ~ “55 “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” )
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE IN THE RESURRECTION
- We shall be resurrected because of Him. (1 Corinthians 4:14 ~ “I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.” )
- We shall have a new body. (Philippians 3:20–21 ~ “20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.” )
- We shall be like Him. (1 John 3:2 ~ “Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” )
- JESUS IS OUR ASSURANCE OF HEAVEN
- We have desired Heaven. (Hebrews 11:16 ~ “But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.” )
- We have an inheritance in Heaven. (1 Peter 1:4 ~ “to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,” )
- We will be taken to Heaven by Him. (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 ~ “16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.”)
